Although the weather got extremely chilly, at least for my taste, we still decided on checking out 2nd Street Festival Saturday. I personally feel like the festival on 2nd Street in Richmond, Virginia is the place to be when you want to run into old friends, family, and co-workers; however, we were there to capture the essence of Richmond’s street style. The groups of clustered style mavens coordinating ensembles just in case they’re spotted by anyone, is too much to miss and wait to attend on Sunday. Besides, we had another event on Sunday, so Saturday just had to do.
Talk about crowded; this event was swamped with people of all ages and backgrounds trying to take part in one of the biggest events in the city. No matter what time of day, we saw people decked out in their freshest, some with babies in tow, trying to get some food, listen to good music, and catch up with old friends. It’s like the whole city’s family reunion, and you are missing out if you don’t attend. Of course getting parking close enough to second street is enough to make you want to turn around and go home, but this year seemed more organized then ever. I also give applause to the fact that there was no drama or craziness to speak of. I may be wrong, but this year the vibe was all positive and I loved it.
Here are pictures of people that really stood out to me. These may not be everyone’s fashion choices, because we promote individual style but confidence also plays a huge part here. These pics are of people who looked confident and stylish all in one breath. I also got pics of the classic cars that I so adored as well. Check it out and enjoy…
Everything was perfect, more than what we needed. I truly love this city!

Check out last year’s review, nothing compared to this one but still cool… especially since we went on a Sunday last year to avoid the crowd. Tip: Sometimes a crowd is good. lol
In honor of Full Figure Fashion going down in New York for the next few days, I’ve decided to introduce you all to some of the models I will be walking with in the Tropical Diva Summer Madness Fashion Show. These women exemplify what true beauty and confidence is for full figured and plus size women. Many of them have had to deal with ridicule and negative comments about their weight and their looks, but they changed the game and used that as fuel to set the plus size world on fire. Be inspired and motivated by these beauties, and give love to plus size goddesses everywhere.

“During my childhood years, I was always the biggest and tallest person in my class, let alone the biggest girl. For many years I had low self esteem, and always wanted to be small and petite like all of my friends. But now, I love and embrace my curves and height… I Love being me! I have gained this level of confidence over my years of life experiences. I want to inspire other full figured women to feel good about themselves and encourage positive self esteem, which comes from an unconditional internal love for one’s self. It is important for women to know that we are beautiful no matter what size. If we always display an attitude of self assurance and confidence then it will teach others how to treat us and that we are all different…this is what makes us all special, this is what makes a “Beautiful You.”“
She looks forward to working with others that want to make a movement in Plus Sized Modeling, such as fashion designers, make up artists, and photographers….

I know I’m not the only one who knows about the thrift store phenomenon that is Rumors boutique in the VCU area of Richmond, Virginia. But do you know just how fantastic the selection is? I mean, Geez! I was in there several times last week, two times when I was broke and twice when I had some change in my pocket and all times, I wanted to buy almost the whole store. Please take into consideration I am not being paid to say this, but I simply love this concept. They have some of the most unique pieces I have ever seen. Some of the items they have, you won’t be able to find anywhere. For guys and girls, you have a huge selection of options to choose from no matter your style or taste.
I love the selction but most importantly, I love that I can bring in the stuff I no longer like, fit, or need – get some cash or a very reasonable store credit and keep it moving. I tested this theory last week with a vintage dress that I had for a while. It was one of my favorite pieces, a true GaptoothDiva exclusive. I brought it to the store, filled out a short form and browsed around as I waited for my items to be reviewed. Less than 3 minutes later, They told me I was almost fifteen dollars richer or I can get a even larger store credit. I was so D.W.I (down with it), I almost ran out the store with my money in hand. Gas is too damn high, and I was too damn impressed to not share this with my fellow divas and divos.
Now, don’t go grabbing everything in your closet people. You must only bring in clean, fashionable items that are stain and hole free. Please don’t embarrass me, by bring in your dusty t-shirts with the ring around the collar saying GaptoothDiva sent you. I will not stand for that, because I also shop there now. I’m glad this store exist, but I want more people (especially curvy and thick females) to participate. That’s only because I’ll have more of a selection to choose from. It’s a great thing here, so whether you are a VCU student or not, check it out and save some money. Don’t need to shop at the others stores anymore that take your money and never give you anything but another expense. Rumors gives back to your wallet, to your closet, and even to the community. I’m loving it, a true fashionista’s dream, I’m just here to tell you… don’t sleep – it’s amazing.

2011 Mother’s Day Look by I’esha GaptoothDiva featuring stiletto heels
So it’s that time of the year to do something special for that one person who brought you into this world (and can take you out), your mother. This Mother’s Day, decide to do brunch with the woman you love in a casual and chic cardigan and jean ensemble or go out on the town for a dinner date in your favorite floral dress and sexy pumps. Try something new, by adding a little piece of decor in your hair for that perfect girly effect. Your mother would be so proud that you aren’t showcasing those tattoos that say how much of a bad B&%^&*, you are… at least for today.
The new year is going to bring in some wonderful new changes and hopefully positive improvements for each of you.. I had a great time at this year’s 2nd Street Festival before all the shooting and hoopla, but a big thanks goes out to venturerichmond.com for continuing to provide the city’s residents with something for everyone. I love the artwork by local artist and of course everyone’s favorite, the yummy food up and down the street. My waist line hates you, but I guess it’s going to have to take a backseat, because I’m definitely coming back next year.
Here are some of the chic folks that stood out to me as I prowled the Jackson Ward event.
It’s nothing like a man who can wear his suit and tie walking down 2nd Street that screams artist, musician, or maybe just a quiet poet in need of his muse. Ok, ladies, he’s got locks, smooth skin and wears his pants on his ass, what more do you need? I love the classic look, bro. 1 point for the old skool team.
Girlfriend, give me your man (just for a shopping trip). I was shocked to see this bold couple out and about mostly because it was the guy’s outfit that caught my attention first. That’s a first! I love Ms. Lady’s peep toe boots, but most of all I’m feeling the vest and hat combo on Mr. Fab. These two were almost too fierce for the block.
I’m too old for toys ( at least some of them anyway. lol), but I was brought back to childhood when Ms. Thang walked past wearing the cutest outfit. For all you tweens at heart, take note. This Diva knows about individuality. Great job, hun!
Style is a state of mind and these two have got their heads on straight. Fresh out of college these two girls reflect creativity and style with their unique choices. I love the girl on the left’s natural hair ( my summer time fave), but the girl on the right has got my boots on for real, or at least I plan to make them mine. I love them!
The great thing about fall is that you can take all the sunshine out of the sky and put it into your highlights. Ok, so that was corny, but what isn’t is this girls hair cut and makeup job. Although it was cloudy at some points on Sunday, this chick was able to maintain that summer glow through her beautiful honey blonde streaks and minimal makeup. I thought she looked like Raven Simone, but that’s just me.
This season is all about bold lips and eyes. This chick has got both. She threw in the vintage tee and some cool sneakers and she has got an outfit for chillin’ and watching art. I love her look , she’s the epitome of an individual with her curly natural hair and bangles, you go sister!
I loved this girl’s outfit so much, I literally ran across the street to get a pick of her. I love how she mixed textures with the black & white skirt, yellow shirt, and washed denim jacket. The necklaces made it a statement. Why don’t more people be as daring? I’m impressed. She is GaptoothDiva Approved as my favorite for the weekend. Young fashion innovators on the rise people, take notes.
Everyone should know the famous VA rapper Tamir Rock, but as you can see he even rolls to 2nd Street with style by his side. Accompanied by his brothers and sister, the group takes unique & creative out of the music studio and into their wardrobe. I initially stopped his sister, but after talking with the group for a minute, I saw more fashion finds than enough. After I took their pic, it was a wrap. They officially shut it down for clear hiphop style on the block.
Here are some pics of my favorite 2nd Street finds.

Due to my recent decision to rock my natural locks for a while and still maintain DIVA status, I’ve been getting many questions about my confidence level and how I’m holding up.
First of all, I wasn’t in some horrific accident that left me deformed and mangled. I just took the weave out! Damn, is it that bad? Don’t answer that because I don’t really care.
I wanted to have segment where I asked people about their opinions on their own body image and how they perceive women with different characteristics than themselves. I want to know is all the “accepting my flaws and just being me” a hype or are women really down for the cause, and if so do they apply those same policies towards other women?
I will also be interviewing the owner, Ms. Sharon Davis about her journey into the hair care industry and tips on how to maintain the beauty that is me. lol
Broadcasting LIVE from one of Richmond’s most creative hair salons, Shardee’s Hair Studio & Spa, the GaptoothDiva will spark up the conversation and the inspiration.

These women failed to realize the sign on the garment that read:
“AAAWWW HEEELLL NAAAW! You can’t wear me! I don’t Fit You! Get something a little bigger and stop embarrassing yourself, chic.
This is the reason the plus size community gets so much crap from the media. I understand original style, I love it. But to be falling out your clothes… unacceptable.
Sorry, go straight to jail!
And for the little girl… child obesity is not a game. Mothers we really need to ensure our children have a balance diet. It makes no sense at all for this child to be that big still in a stroller. Who is throwing their back out pushing this little girl around? Let her walk some of those cakes and cookies off. She is going to be seriously damaged down the road, if they don’t fix it now.
