It’s so refreshing when you see an artist with a message; it’s even more refreshing when that message is in conjunction with exactly how you feel. Lately, I have been having this hunger for the word and for change. I noticed that everything related to life, struggles and blessings are mentioned in the bible one way or another. All my life I felt as if I was being pulled into two different directions, as if I was in a game of tug and war with me being the rope. As strong as I am, as I feel God has made me, it’s apparent that my gifts and talents far exceed whatever expectations I have or understand, and my enemy know that. It’s a fight, as I mentioned before in It’s a War Happening Right Now! Using Faith As My Armor: A Letter from The Battle Field.
So thankfully, I see inspirational videos come my way, or by way of my husband, and I’m excited. I really want you to check out this video and support this couple. T-Rock and Priceless have been rapping for over 11 years. They also have been married to each other for 6 years. They currently reside in Richmond, Virginia with their 4-year-old daughter and 9 month old twin boys. T-Rock and Priceless are passionate about Jesus and greatly desire to see our present world have a life altering, authentic encounter with the only true and living God. They believe our generation is no longer satisfied with church as usual. There is a desperation and hunger for the presence of God and real change. These two have decided that they can no longer sit idly by as the enemy destroys families and attempts to completely mar any trace of the image of God in our society. T-Rock and Priceless are relentless about Biblical truth and seek to relay the Gospel in a relevant way through rap. However, it doesn’t stop there. They want to present Jesus in a tangible way as they serve their community and local church. Through their dynamic testimonies, T-Rock and Priceless want others to see how God has transformed their lives for His Glory. Moreover, in doing so, they hope to respond to the cry of the people and bring glory to God.
Through their lives, they both have endured struggles, trials, and tribulations, and their lives currently are great examples of how merciful God is and how awesome God has been. Avoiding circumstances that could have ultimately made them statistics, they both relied on prayer and service to see them through, and through their work they are aiming to inspire others to do the same.

It’s so exciting to officially blog for the Lyric Ave. Freestyle showcase’s monthly show. The shows are done monthly for a season, highlighting local and national talent with live music, poetry, and skits. From thought provoking prose and performances to amusing parodies, this show is more enjoyable than most programs on television. I wrote about the January 2013 installment of Lyric Ave., and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it absolutely did. This go around it was funnier and I think that would be an understatement.
The excitement started immediately on the street outside of the Hippodrome Theater in Jackson Ward. As we headed inside ready to enjoy the show, a homeless man stopped us to ask for change. Immediately I was suspicious. I’m not a “homeless man” fashion expert, nor do I qualify the needy by how dirty they are, but this homeless man had a lace-front beard on! That thing was so smooth and luxurious, either someone donated a hot comb and some Luster’s Pink Lotion or this dude was an imposter. Nevertheless, Hubs gave him some change and we ran inside, laughing because we knew we were in for a surprise.
The show maintained the excitement through out. I especially liked how enthusiastic the other audience seemed to be, making the ambiance very jovial for everyone. It’s was like a thirst in the air for more laughs, something that I believe we could all use nowadays. Lyric Ave. definitely accomplished that. Carla Jackson, one of the featured artists performed on her guitar, and had me ready to turn up. When you start like that… it’s only getting better from there. I was cracking up laughing off host Micah “Bam – Bamm” White with his “Take that back and do whatever you want with that” jokes. Such a talented individual did an amazing job as usual.
Chari Brown definitely surprised me with her two performances that evening. I saw her in the February showcase and thought she was an amazing actress. However, the evening proved that she is also a great songstress as well. I didn’t know that, so I was pleasantly surprised when she sang one of my favorite Beyonce tracks “Flaws and All” with such conviction. Her performance with J-Gott was exceptional as well. Between his eloquent lyrics and her sweet voice, I felt that was a very soulful duet.
Speaking of beautiful duets, Jarrard Anthony and @Ameramen made beautiful music on stage, speaking volumes to the Hubs and I. Artists like these make events like this perfect to bring your significant other to, sets the stage for fun and a little expressive romance. Jarrard Anthony is definitely a talented songwriter/musician here in Richmond, Virginia and the host of Saturday Soul Social (www.saturdaysoulsocial.com ). Check it out for more information.
Randolph A. Fitz, another featured aspect of the show has seriously gave me whiplash for “umpteenth” time. In person, this man will have you in stitches with his random silliness. He was even outside the Hippodrome when we ran into the homeless person, which turned out to be Iman Shabazz (Creative Director, cast member and actor for Lyric Ave.) Randolph said, “Ya’ll give that man something, Ya’ll got it!” while we were too busy trying to get into the theater and figure out if this dude was authentic or a hoax. Laughing at him, I’m immediately switched into a different emotion with his performance on stage. With “What If” and “I Know I’ve Been Changed”, I got excited and all in my feelings. Great artist have that ability to make you feel all sorts of things through their art, He just happens to be one of those individuals.
With the hilarious skits like “In the Streets” and “Yo People’s Court” making us laugh so hard, we had ugly faces on. “Yo People’s Court” had me doing my super ghetto laugh, that I reserve for family and close friends only. You know that one that could get you kicked out of the movie theater? It was that funny, for real. We just knew that we had our fill for the evening. Lyric Ave. saved a real gem for last. First, the funny Cory Marshall did his thing, setting us up with very funny jokes and audience engagement. The Featured comic of the evening, DMV’s Comic of the Year, Larry Lancaster killed it with his routine. He joked about old people trying to look like young thugs, but looking extremely childish, something I see so often it’s scary. The guy was so funny, I later realized that I was the only girl in my section claiming to be a “big girl” when a couple of sisters around me was definitely pledging Beta Phi Thick as well. Nevertheless, it was all good fun and I enjoyed every minute of it. Larry was seriously funny and talented, ending another amazing showcase with smiling faces.
Overall, the cast of Lyric Ave. kills it each and every time with entertainment and performances that caters to a mature and eclectic audience of people who can appreciate a certain caliber of music, soul, and truth. I never expect less, but I’m learning to always expect more and more from this dynamic group of people.

This Thursday March 28th at 8pm, I will have the pleasure of attending a listening party for our girl, the beautiful and very talented Lela Bizz (www.LelaBizz.com) at 2 Beyond Recording Studios (3414 Semmes Ave. Richmond, Virginia 23236 – right next door to the acclaimed Antonz Barbershop & Beauty Salon)
Lela has been working diligently to drop not only an EP of songs that she has written and created herself, but also a mixtape of covers as well. I had the pleasure of asking her a few questions about her style and her music recently and I just couldn’t wait until after the event to share with you what she had to say. If you follow her on Twitter or on Facebook, Lela exemplifies a playful yet seductive style that is as bold as her performances. She always has such a bright and positive spirit every time I see her around RVA. I’m excited for her new projects expected to release, and I believe that you will be also.
I asked Lela how she would describe her personal style. She stated, “I would describe my fashion taste as classy risqué. I like to (think of) it as being daring. I love timeless pieces, I love putting things together.” That’s awesome. From her eclectic choices to her quirky/sexy selections, I can see that she is a risk taker, and we all love a bold and daring style personality.
Lela lists three things as her must haves before ever leaving the house, 1. ModGyrl lippies/ ModGyrl lipstick, 2. Scarf (She ties it as a hair bow), and finally 3. Nerdy glasses or a pair Sunglasses. I’m starting to think this is the universal uniform for all of us these days, because I literally have all that in my purse at this very moment. These are amazing choices for an amazing fashionista, for sure.
Lela doesn’t attribute her style to any favorite designers, but admits that she loves a good thrift shop.
However, when it comes to her favorite cosmetic brand, it’s no surprise that she exclaims, “I’m a ModGyrl all day!”
When asked which trends were currently her favorite now, Lela states, “I love looks from the 90′s., Mom jeans and tied up button ups blouses, and I love polka dots as well”. Lela also explains that she doesn’t necessarily hate any trends, “History repeats itself so I tend to have an open mind with fashion”, she stated.
If you are a supporter of hers on Instagram and Facebook, Lela often post many pictures of her progress through out her insanity workouts and healthy eating. Such an inspiration to young women who want to improve on their bodies and health, she advises, “Beach body workouts are the best! Insanity was the ONLY workout that I have done and seen results. I worked out before, pretty frequently, but it’s something about insanity that pushes you to new heights!” Lela also mentions that she is currently a Beach Body coach and that she goes hard for Insanity. She plans to do Chalean Extreme next. You can check her out at www.beachbodycoach.com/Bizzybfitness
So when it comes to her music, she takes it extremely seriously. I remember seeing her doing covers on Youtube back in 09, and she has only progressed since then. She was even featured on GaptoothDiva Radio back in March 2011, bringing a genuine talent that was respected and adored.
When asked how her new EP and her mixtape differ from past projects that she has worked on, she stated, “The mixtape is all covers. I have never done a mixtape with all covers before. (In addition)The EP is a collection of songs, that I feel represent exactly who Lela Bizz is! If you didn’t know who I was, The Ep would explain all of that in 7 songs.”
When asked which track does she say describes exactly where she is in her life at this moment, Lela explains “If I had to pick one… I would say, “Would’ve Known Betta “. That song speaks to me!” Therefore, who has influenced this artist throughout this whole creation process, Lela attributes Jazmine Sullivan for embodying so much emotion in her music. “I feel I really embodied my emotions in that song. I feel Jazmine does that with every song she does!”
Lela Bizz says that the people who understand her music the most are the individuals that have fell in love and fell out of it! She says that her songs are based on true events, and that what she speaks to.
So, what can we expect from Ms. Lela Bizz after this scheduled listening party March 28th ? She informed us, “I’ll be touring and promoting!” The hard work never quits and that is truly motivating.

Last year my husband had the awesome privilege of attending the Camp Diva Date with Dad Dinner and Dance, and came home talking about how amazing the whole event was. Naturally, we discussed all the beautiful dresses the girls wore and the fathers who compassionately accompanied their daughters to this event, which celebrated love and the bond between father and daughter. At the time my relationships with my own father was strained and virtually in limbo, so I felt my heart tug when my husband joyfully described the love and affection shown to each girl by her father. It was the pictures that depicted fun, excitement, and grandeur, which made me want to attend the event this year on my own. However, it was my husband’s powerful testimony that enticed me to make the decision to repair the relationship with my father and bring him along, with my two sisters as well.
I knew from the very beginning that God had his hand in this situation. As I was preparing to talk with my Dad about attending, my sisters had already caught wind of the event through social media, as I was tweeting and posting it to Facebook. Immediately when I suggested that we should all go, they both squealed in delight. “This will absolutely bring us all together!” they exclaimed. It was just a matter of asking my Father. When I arrived at my father’s house to ask him, I must admit I was nervous. In my late twenties, I have never embarked on something as wonderful as a father/daughter dance. I would have never imagined inviting my father to an event like this, or even him attending one with me. We just were never that type of father/daughter team. Neither my sisters nor I knew what was going to happen, but I stepped out in faith and invited my Dad anyway. My Dad immediately said “yes!” I was ecstatic. He said it sounded like a great idea and he too wanted to start spending more time with us and create a stronger bond with his daughters. This was going to be an experience I never wanted to forget.
I prayed on it the whole way through. Most of us were struggling financially, trying to make ends meet and pay bills. Just barely keeping our heads above water, I faced the challenge of paying for all four of us to attend the event. With tickets costing $25 each, I knew I wanted to contribute to the event and deliver an awesome experience to my sisters and father at the same time. I had to get to work. The Date with Dad was my priority. Most of the people I talked to were difficult to close on the idea that they too should contribute to this monumental occasion, some even suggested that it might not be worth it. Here I am trying to help and create a wonderful memory for not only me, but other girls and their fathers too, and obstacles were coming from left and right. I pressed on, I sold clothes, I contracted work, and saved pennies just so that I could attend with my family and give them the night I promised. I could only imagine the work that the women of Camp Diva have to put into what they do. They are truly an inspiration. The ability to keep explaining your vision, your dream, and your purpose to people, in the hopes that they too buy into it and can contribute a small iota of assistance to see it flourish… it monumental. Those women are amazing!
I finally got the money together and I paid for my ticket, Glory to God! We scheduled a date to help my Dad find a suit, which for some reason was rescheduled three to four times due to scheduling conflicts. However, when we finally got together, it was an awesome Saturday afternoon. We laughed, we cracked jokes, and we talked. Something we rarely get to do with him on our own. It’s that nervous feeling around him, as if you’re meeting someone for the first time. We ask ourselves constantly, “Does he know this” or “Have I told him this”. This event was going to be the catalyst to jump start a relationship with our father. This was going to be the marriage of a father/daughter bond that we never experienced. We wore variations of white and gold, because we were solidifying a solid bond with this man, who we have lived with our entire lives, but know rarely anything about. Our Dad, who has always provided for us, but never really tried to get too close. This was our chance to change what history has tainted, and I couldn’t have been more excited if I tried.
The night was beautiful! In gown and dresses, my sisters and I stepped out with our father in a spectacular way. I walked in a saw all these beautiful little girls and gorgeous women, all adorned in pretty dresses and incredible smiles. My Dad was dapper in his suit and tie, looking nervous but excited himself. He cleans up well, and we were so proud to have him on our arm. As we ate and drank punch at the table, marveled by the beautiful families around us, we laughed and joked the whole night. I am not going to lie and say that we weren’t at the table waiting and ready to get “turnt up”. I wanted to dance and watch everyone else get his or her party on as well. So right after the celebration of the Real Father Award Winners: Congratulations to Harold Coles Jr., Scott Randall, Thomas Nixon, Anson Owen, and Nelson B. Farrar and the Father/Daughter game with Actor Chad Coleman (Miss Evers Boys/The Wire), Juan Conde (Anchor with TV 8) led us into the dance portion of the evening.
My Dad was a straight crazy man on the dance floor and I loved it. We laughed at his silliness and delighted in his ability to just let go and be free. It’s times like this when I realize that time is never promised to us, and if I could make that moment in time last forever, I would. Nevertheless, I soaked in every minute of it, and enjoyed every second. He talked with Juan Conde and shared stories about us when we were little, listening to him on the radio when Juan was with Power 92. He was so excited. He ran and took pictures everywhere and profiled in his suit, something he doesn’t get to wear often enough. I was proud to have him with me that evening. My sisters looked beautiful and my Dad was so excited, the evening turned out better than I could have ever imagined.
When I think about what Angela Patton and everyone with Camp Diva are doing, have done, and are attempting to do with these young girls in Richmond, I kind of wish I was a little girl again. I wish I had this when I was younger, because we wouldn’t be trying to begin a relationship with my Dad as adults, we would be celebrating what already was in place. I wish that some more people out there were diligent in trying to institute something so precious as that bond, like Camp Diva is doing. Nevertheless, my mission was to prove that it is never too late. As a grown woman with children of my own I’m making it my business to make something happen between my sisters, my dad, and I. Life is too short and I don’t have the time for “should’ve, could’ve, and would’ve”, I want to take advantage of these opportunities when they come. I didn’t know if I was going to even be able to afford to do it, but my trust that God was going to see me through, and it did, it saw me through that hotel, with two beautiful sisters and my handsome father in tow. So just when you think it’s not important for you to strive for life has a funny way of showing you, everything is worth it and more. Our experience is one for the books, a lifetime memory and a whole lot of love was in that room at the Marriot. Camp Diva did an awesome job in putting that together and creating a chance for fathers to make their daughters feel special. I can’t wait to attend next year; I hope that I see you at the table beside us.
Shout out to Melody Short (Artisan Café), Craig Watson (Lyric Ave), Rob (Peace Clothing) who I saw and spoke to that evening. A huge shout out to Angela Patton, Ayana, Lisa, and all the beautiful women of Camp Diva (Camp Diva).

I got that fire shorty, yeah I got that fire!! Naw, I don’t even know why I said that. I have brand new videos and tracks for you today. Is it me or does this dude sound like….”Weeeeezzzzyyyy Babbyyy!!” Lmao. I’m serious. I kept looking at the video and the information attached, thinking someone was sharing a new Lil’ Wayne song. Alas, it is not the YMCMB man, but some dude name Lil’ Chuckee featuring another dude by the name of Kevin Gates. I see you! This song actually sounds like it was on the radio the other day. I’m impressed. It takes a lot to impress with a strip joint soundtrack, but I felt a little twerk come on after the first verse that I will just credit to my epilepsy. Keep the party going!
I know they’re different. Nevertheless, for some guys from Minnesota, I think they have real ambition. I listened to the lyrics several times and to be honest the guy lost me a few moments in, it was something said about Buzz Lightyear from Toy story. LOL. The video was cool; I liked the photography. Other than that, I’m just sharing
There is no doubt that he is talented. I believe this video was much better than the one I reviewed a few months back. He is so motivating. I was hype, like seriously. The video concept was nice; watching him grind in his hometown to this track was awesome. This is probably the favorite of the week.

I just had to start with something totally out of the box. I have a new interest in house and electronica. I think it’s because the mix with hip-hop sometimes is so amazing. Well, I decided to share an artist from Sweden who has been sharing his music with me for quite a while. He is extremely talented and ambitious. Now they aren’t many lyrics to the song, but I’m sure that some of you can deal with that. The beat is fantastic and going against the visual of a ballerina, it really is imaginative.
You ever listened to the beginning of a song and just weren’t connecting with it. Like the beat, the lyrics, the video just didn’t get you at first. Then you immediately hear the chorus and start to jump on board. It’s like everything after the chorus made sense finally. Well, ok maybe not. However, that is what just happened to me. I
wasn’t rocking with it at first; it just didn’t catch me. Nevertheless, the
chorus plays, it’s catchy and I’m like… it’s cool. The tie on the t-shirt was very distracting. I love individuality, so if that is a symbol or trademark thing, go right ahead. I just think less is more, and the t-shirt was hot enough alone. Trayce looks like a fun dude to hang out with, spitting harder as the song goes on. I give it thumbs up
For the Ladies that like R&B dudes, here is a very sensual track from an attractive man. Now, what can I say that won’t have ME sleeping on the couch? LOL. Jey Gibbs shows off his body, which shows that he works out and eats healthy. He is lying on a bed that looks comfortable for games like “horizontal twister”. He also sings about wanting to put his hands on a woman, but not in a Chad Johnson kind of way. …. Too early? Anyway, the man made a panty dropper and sings it well. He provides a visual of what we would expect if we succumbed to his request and did a great job. Now there… I love my husband… I love my husband… I love my husband.
In an upbeat and bubbly tone, Vassy sings about positive love and admiration. I took the video to mean the person she was in love with was so perfect they were like a doll. Obviously, she must have been perfect to him as well, because she too resembled a doll at some points. It’s a fun pop video that I could imagine being played during one of my favorite prime time sitcoms. Vassy looks amazing in the video, and her outfits were too cute. Please, tell me where you got that black and white stripe dress!! I enjoyed it a lot. I can really get a sense of her talent from this. Make sure you check out her other tracks, which are all equally amazing.

Yes, I’m back with new music videos that no one is watching. Just kidding, but seriously. I’m sharing new videos from up and coming artist (Good & Bad) for your viewing entertainment. I’m not going to lie, “Twerk” songs are excellent soundtracks for our community of exotic dancers. Let say you don’t like exotic dancers, or you just don’t want people to know you do. “Twerk” music is also great for working out, cleaning up the house, or just (regular) dancing where no one can grind on you. I use this type of music for the latter examples, obviously because I’m not an exotic dancer (professional or free nightclub version). I actually really like this track. I wish there was a video that exemplified my idea of what this song would make you do. I imagine the video concept showcasing the true talents of pole dancers, making average girls jealous. It should commemorate the human body but not be too raunchy. I played this song during my run this weekend, just to see if it blended with my other motivating tracks on my playlist and it fit right in. Very high energy, which if you’re going to talk about me “twerking” anything, it better be. I can definitely hear this being played in the club, strip and otherwise. #Squadheavy
I didn’t check of Jackson City Pt. 1, and now I’m mad! This promo video for Jackson City 2 is so cool. I was trying to see the people’s faces through the special effects, but overall I’m so pleased at how this went down. The girl had me in the beginning singing Michael Jackson, it sounded so good. However, when he started mixing it and the guys started dancing, I was intrigued. I liked this a lot. I can’t wait to see more from them in the future.
OMFG!!!! This video was hot. The whole time I’m watching it, I’m wondering how is it going to end. Never did I expect that. I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it, but … damn! Anyway, excellent lyrics by @BravoofVA and great shooting by @804Tmac as well. Very talented dudes for sure. This video exuded the drama and reality that we crave from music videos nowadays. The video tells the story along with the song. A beautiful girl gets caught up and makes a mistake, but a mistake that she won’t EVER forget. I’m gone. This was amazing work, which no doubt showed they worked hard on this. I’m very impressed. I like the song and the visual, so I recommend you get up with these dudes soon.
You can tell when somebody doesn’t “Give A F*ck” when they talk about how much of a killer they are in a white wicker chair. I’m just kidding… or am I? Seriously, this song is not wack, I just didn’t start to feel hype until the second dude started rapping. The first one might have been too high, because I felt lethargic listening to him rhyme. Like I said it wasn’t wack, I just didn’t believe him. The second dude flow had more energy, I thought his verse was more believable considering they all sat in this white wicker chair at some point. I’m going to need for these dudes to get off this game and get some girls in their videos. That is the second video where “Bad B*tches” were mentioned, but none were visible. Just a bunch of dudes in the house, smoking, drinking, and playing video games. I like when the “get money” dudes actually make their fans understand how they… wait for it…GET MONEY. I just can’t…

You want that dose of rap, video shots of alcohol bottles random dudes smoking blunts, then this video is for you. On my quest looking for new videos, I stumbled across these up and coming artist. What can I say? It’s a song about “hitting a chick with your awesomeness”, but hardly a chick in sight. It would have been nice if they included a leading lady that he could spit these fire verses in style, but that is not the way they work, I guess. Watch them as they hit people with their “swag” on what most likely could be a school trip to Washington D.C.
What I like most about this Case Closed character, is that he proudly announces that he does everything himself. I love that! It’s his fault if you don’t like him, he owns that responsibility. Now moving on… He obviously has some talent in lyrics (from what I can hear), however the beat over saturated most of his punchlines in my opinion. I liked the different shots of RVA, i.e. Manchester Bridge, Southside, etc. Since I took the time out to watch this video I will say, the man needs a stylist. He flashed logos of clothing that was far too irrelevant to share with his audience. I was also completely turned off at the site of his basketball jersey. Stop distracting us with what you have on, and say what needs to be said. I see so much potential…
Case Closed, Hip Hop Artist from Richmond, VA..Unsigned, aspiring musician…makes his own videos, records his own music, HIMSELF. check him out.
Brooklyn we go hard! Or did he? I enjoyed the idea that this artist is coming from a different direction than the blunt smoking, bottle popping, and fat ass diluted music video concept. Because of that fact alone, I decided to share this. I wasn’t feeling many of the verses, because I could imagine better words being placed in there somewhere, but that’s just me. You might love it! Finally, a video I received via Twitter (we all know how much we love that) from #TeamJaGutta at @TeamJaGutta: @GaptoothDiva Like and Comment @IamJaGutta‘s – “Ms. Perfect” video and enjoy!!!!! #StateofEmergency
When it comes to club songs, the ones that make girls get in the “I’m about to drop a dookie on the floor” position and pop their booties, this is a success. I could imagine this on the radio. Most importantly, they’re talking about girls…. and you see girls! There is a greater percentage of decent looking females in the video as well. Although, I’m not the type to grind upon these dudes, I could see myself being dragged to a party of this caliber, based on the video. It doesn’t exceed my ratchet limit at all. More power to them for getting a bunch of girls to bend over and dry hump on their Johnson, more power to them. Thanks for sending me a decent music video with great potential. It was not a waste of time, and I got new music to secretly shake my ass at home where it belongs.

Thursday’s interview with Ms. Proper of So Proper Entertainment was just as I expected. She’s a good friend of mine, but I also believe that she is an inspiration to so many people out there. It’s funny how I scheduled her to inspire females, but everything about her swag, her business ethic, and her brand is more of an inspiration to all people, something that was rightfully mentioned during the show.
Her ability to yoke her creativity into her music, her marketing, and her internet radio show Rated “R” Radio, as made her a force to be reckoned with. That is probably why so many people either love her or “hate” her. She is not immune to the callous comments and sub-tweets by grown men and women who feel that she is undeserving of the respect she receives, but she presses on industriously. She puts fire into everything she creates, preying on the self-conscious and insecure who pretend to want this life. I’m constantly engrossed in her ability to make everything so cool.
Admitting in her interview that she was self-conscious herself in the dawn of her career, let’s everyone know that she is not above being human. That inspired so many people to know, that they to can break from the bond of feeling apprehension and just release themselves into their art. She turned her uncertainty into pure unadulterated talent, fearing nothing now. She admits that the change came with practice and an insidious need to perfect her craft and her brand. She has been pit against all types of people, taking her name from local to national through her appearance on 106 & Park. I call her a “Beast” and a “Monster”, laughing at what visually appears as a small feisty young woman, but to many she’s over 6 feet tall.
The kind of attitude that is expected of Ms Proper is only one that can be adopted by years of passion and perseverance. When you love something so much, as she does her brand and business, that mind-set is to be expected. Even she admits it wasn’t always like that. You can joke about her arrogance, but truthfully, you should adopt it. That “arrogance” is what makes people fear her, as she has never been challenged on a microphone. It’s that outlook that makes people wish and desire to be put on a bill, which has her name on it.
The same way you root for your favorite athlete, praying the make it to the championship every year. The same way you get excited when your close relatives graduates high school, gets married, or has a baby, is the same way I watch her grind in anticipation. I know its coming. Even if it’s not in music, I know she will embark on huge things that will make her happier than she has ever imagined. However, it is because she is such a wonderful person without all that behind her name is the reason why I love her as a friend. It’s because she doesn’t display attributes of attention thirst, or celebrity. She displays honor and respect for her craft and business and the ideas of others. She will always be one of my favorites. I suggest you take a listen and become a fan, otherwise just slide quietly to the side and pout by yourself.
The other night we interviewed Destiny Da Chef, a Richmond based female artist who has been creating music since she was about 11 years old. Her testimony about her career reflected that of someone who had no fear about their art. I particularly liked her attitude when it came to her views on her other artist, and how she doesn’t allow what other people do affect her grind.
In a time where everyone wants to be the best, wants to out-shadow every person around them, and wants to step overhead for glory, this young woman has tunnel vision. Tuesday night we talked about the message in her lyrics and the songs she creates, a message that is drenched in female empowerment and motivation. Yes, we can make money, we can be different, and no one can stop what is already ours! Does she knock anybody down? I don’t think so. My impression from her is that, that is not her intention. Her style represents a person who doesn’t care what you’re doing if your goals aren’t in parallel to her own, which is success.
She has made a name for herself with her skills, but I think it’s her attitude as well that with usher you into being a fan. Her music is incredible, but it’s her live performances and the energy that accompanies it that makes you feel like jumping up and throwing the finger to the world. She describes it as being an angry kid, but it’s evident that her maturity is displayed when we discussed her ambitions.
** The interview was cut unexpectedly short due to some technical difficulties on our end with our audio and sound. I couldn’t let go of the opportunity to share what she was able to bring to the table, as I believe she is someone worth being motivated by. **

Last week’s interview with Professional Producer and Engineer, Amzi Jackson of Untitled Music and Media, went exactly as I hoped. We not only got to listen to his craft, work worth being admired, but we also received his feedback on that state of independent music. I was impressed that he was able to express his thoughts without holding back. He was the epitome of a true professional, wanting nothing more but for his business to succeed and to leave a lasting and positive legacy that, his family could be proud of.
I now understand how hard it is to walk a path, in what seems like isolation. Amzi described how he does things differently, not really looking to his right and left worried about the intentions of his counterparts. His goal is to remain positive and only do things from the heart. If only more people could adopt those motives, I wouldn’t feel so much like a vigilante, trying to stop ignorance and crime on the internet. LOL. He made me feel as if, no matter what there would always have to be a balance. With positive intentions and actions, come some people who feel the opposite. It is not our responsibility to stop them or change them. It is our job, to get out our visions and ideas the way they were blessed to us. We should worry about nothing more than touching the lives we were meant to touch.
Speaking of being touched, I couldn’t help but mention the project that he worked so hard on with BlackRVA, Wake Up Everybody. This music video ignited my passion to stay positive and continue to walk down this path. Its people like Amzi, BlackRVA, and many others that let me know I’m not alone in wanting to see my community, my generation, and everyone do much better than we’ve ever imagine. That’s why giving up is not an option. We all can continue to be the Baddest Creative Motivation!

When we interviewed SoloDoloRic last week, it was another certified breath of fresh air. This artist displayed characteristics of someone not just looking for fame and fortune, but someone who loves creating. It was apparent to Boonyevilla and I, that he was an artist that knew what direction he wanted to go in and decided not to allow what the majority does to affect that. He is different. Not in the sense that so many people try to be, but in the essence that very few actually are. He obviously supports fellow artist and learned that the best way to get true fans isn’t by emulating what has already been done.
I enjoyed his personality, but most of all his passion. Episodes like this make it so enjoyable to talk with creative minds and attempt to inspire people. From his tragic accident to his ability to overcome rejection from peers in music, I was engrossed in his testimony. I want more people to learn that being hard isn’t always what will attract people. Yes, that bad boy persona ignites a few; however, it’s the substance behind everything you create that make your fans want to be your friends

During our interview with Lord Infamous, we had an abundance of comments related to why he chose to call himself “Lord Infamous”. It wasn’t about the music, his testimony, or the interview as a whole, but something as trite as the fact that he named himself identical to a former Three 6 Mafia artist.
What’s in a name? I understand first hand the importance of being original and always checking before creating to ensure that no one else has said, done, or created what you are about to. However, with billions of people in the world, how can we really be sure? An idea is generated in our head. We are apart of a small community of people where we are, despite what the internet will make us believe. If someone decided to name him or herself that, I always ask about the significance behind the choice.
He is a truly talented individual. He has educated himself on several instruments (Drums, guitar, percussion instruments, piano/keyboard, organ, etc.). He has learned to master songwriting, production work, engineering, directing, and rapping/singing. In my book, that could qualify him to be described as infamous, especially if you consider his age and back-story. Something we discussed in the interview, and what no one who commented seemed to mention, was that he mentioned he has mastered these things, still having a thirst to learn more. Having mastered his craft and being willing to open his mind to new opportunities, has made him realize he is a LORD at his passion. This means he has mastered it and is great.
Who are we to judge him by his name?
Was it the interview that left you boiling with hate, was it the music that disturbed you, or was it the fact that you have a problem with anyone being named after someone else. I though the focus was misplaced. With everything this young man said he goes through, with all the work he puts into his dream, and how much people adore him, it doesn’t matter what we call him. His name is Brandon to those that love him and truly know him. How many of those are walking around?
I was taken aback by the amount of anonymous emails and comments left, because it goes to show that although our aim is to motivate, we still attract ignorance. I wish him nothing but success and pray that the people who check us out get that we are beyond this.
No matter what you decided to call yourself, it’s what you answer to that makes you who you are.
Tuesday’s interview with Nikki D. Made me think about so many things. I thought about how so many people use their environment as an excuse. They want more out of life, want more out of their dreams, but they allow their family, their living situation, and their friends convince them into another direction. Nikki D. is probably from one of the most rural areas of Alabama, a place more country than any guest we ever had on our show. No one can legitimately say that they have made in the entertainment industry directly coming from Daleville, Alabama. However, through all that she is determined to get her music heard, and live her dream. It’s also inspiring to know that she wasn’t born into a family doing anything closely related to music. She is overcoming, she is pushing on and despite the obvious obstacles, and she still wants to do what she can.
I know that Nikki D. isn’t one of the most popular people doing music, and I know everyone isn’t too excited about Alabama or its independent music scene. My intention is for you to hear her story and be motivated. We have people to our left and right, who may be satisfied with what life, is throwing their way. Nevertheless, when you have dream or aspiration, it’s imperative for you to press on diligently and live your best life. I can’t stress enough how hard it is being surrounded by people who dreams don’t exceed earning that bi-weekly paycheck. How hard it is to be related to people who have given up on the hope that their adolescent ambitions can still be achieved because they’ve lost faith in themselves. However, when you rely on your own faith, nothing can deter you from what is rightfully yours.
This particular interview has some distorted audio, sorry about that. Even so, you can still hear it and be motivated by it. Thank you so much for your support.
